Easy drum beats for beginners

The eight beginner grooves DRUMY ships with, in the order to learn them: easiest first, 4/4 before other time signatures, then the fewest notes a beat. Start with the money beat and finish with the 6/8 groove. Each is written out, counted and ready to play on your kit, from 80 to 118 BPM.

1. Money beat (92 BPM)

Eighths on the hi-hat, kick on 1 and 3, snare on 2 and 4. Most of rock is this. Right hand on the hat, left on the snare, right foot on the kick.

What DRUMY judges

Each note is judged on when it lands, within 140 ms, and on which drum, not on how hard: the accents are drawn, not judged. All of what DRUMY judges.

Easy drum beats: questions

Which drum beat should I learn first?

The money beat. Kick on 1 and 3, snare on 2 and 4, hi-hat on every eighth. Eighths on the hi-hat, kick on 1 and 3, snare on 2 and 4. Most of rock is this.

How fast are these beats?

From 80 BPM (the 6/8 groove) to 118 BPM (the four on the floor). Each one runs for between 20 and 34 seconds in DRUMY.

Do I need a full kit for these?

7 of the 8 need only the kick, snare and hi-hat. The ride cymbal groove moves the right hand to the ride.
